Before we did our little sightseeing tour through Bancroft we had lunch in a German restaurant.
Naturally, I had Schnitzel with a beer and Elizabeth coffee and all of my red cabbage. Again, she was on a diet and not hungry!
But both of us liked this place.
Bancroft is know as the "Mineral Capital" of Canada.
So don't be surprised when you see minerals offered in many places. Maybe you can go "rock hunting" - just ask!
The "Black Forest Schnitzel House"
Bancroft is not very large but nicely located on the York River and the surrounding is not only attractive to stone collectors.
You may have heard about the "Eagle's Nest" on the Obersalzberg in Bavaria. where Hitler entertained certain guests. I am confident he never had visited the "Eagle's Nest" close to Bancroft which offers also a beautiful view.
Bancroft - many thanks to "P199" and Wikipedia
We purchased some souvenirs in this store
Not all offered stones are from this area despite the fact that is the mineral richest one of Canada.
Business is responding to the booming demand. Not only raw stones are offered. You can get them polished and in different shapes.
Also "healing stones" cane be purchased.
A friend gave a healing crystal to Elizabeth, but so far her health did not improve - mine neither!.
My walking became even so bad that Elizabeth had to do some tours on her own.
Beautiful surroundings - many thanks for the picture
I am sure that you will see some geologists if you do some hiking in this beautiful area.
For more information and advise for doing your own exploring please contact the:
"Chamber of Commerce", Tel. 613-332-1513. They even prepared related tours and many helpful information.
Years ago there was also an uranium mine in this area.
Lucky people have a cottage around here where they spend weekends and vacations.
Some of them may eventually rent them out.
We always loved it to stay in a cottage. However, it is mandatory to book in time. Check the Internet for cottage resorts.
The "Silent Lake Provincial Park" - many thanks to "Whpq" and Wikipedia
Unfortunately we were not able to visit the "Silent Lake Provincial Park" during our brief tour.
We are not doing camping any longer and for that reason we only buy a day pass. I wish they would offer cottages. Whenever we have a chance we will check out the so called "Yurts" which offer some more comfort than a tent.
Paudash Lake - many thanks to "Bcrawford" and Wikipedia
