Elliot Lake in tourism region: ";Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma"
Elliot Lake is a relatively young city and, like many others in Canada and was created by an industrial settlement in 1955. This time, uranium deposits were the reason.
The population increased to about 26 000.
When the United States declared that they would no longer buy uranium from Canada and the uranium reserves wer declining all the mines were closed.
Many of the miners got lung cancer or pneumoconiosis. The radiation is still being tested, as I have read.
Today, the city has only about 6000 inhabitants.

To survive as a city new business was needed.
A certain success was achieved with tourism and a very reasonably priced residence for pensioners.

Visit "Mississagi Provincial Park" in the north. As you can see in the video below, even a rainy day out is a worthwhile experience if you are a nature lover.
Use the HWY108, which then merges into the HWY 639.
